Content

Topic:
Changes in educational policies lead to redefining and re-examining the sharing of the education of children between parents and educational professionals as well as the role of each of the parties.

Methodology:

Mixed methods are becoming increasingly important in sociology. What was a war of factions gradually gives way to a pacification which allows to associate the quantitative and qualitative approaches. These associations, however, are not without difficulties, the paradigms underlying quantitative and qualitative studies being sometimes considered as opposite.
After explaining these tensions, examining the various ways in which the authors approach this new methodological proposal, its advantages and limitations, the seminar will propose the adoption of a pragmatic position. It will examine what are the asset of mixed methods to the analysis of Educational questions through the implementation of a questionnaire on "Families and the school at the time of orientation".
Thus, the first part of the semester will be devoted to acquiring knowledge of issues related to mixed methods, the design of their tools and the topics addressed. The second part of the semester will be devoted to the students' design of questionnaires based on a few key questions that aim to clarify the complex relationships between families and school.

Evaluation

This course will be evaluated by a seminar validation which will take into account the work carried out by the students during the two parts of the semester. Regular and active student participation is expected throughout the semester.
