Developing and Testing the Effects of a Digital Intervention for Cannabis Harm Reduction
Although cannabis is used by a large portion of the population worldwide and several jurisdictions have modified their policies toward a regulation of cannabis for recreational purposes, cannabis use is associated with several negative consequences and risks for health. As part of a pilot trial for the sale of recreational cannabis in Lausanne, we will develop and test a prevention intervention designed to promote cannabis harm reduction.
The first aim will be to develop and pre-test a digital intervention promoting cannabis harm reduction. Different modules will be developed and pre-tested by small groups of the target population. Feedback from the target population will be used to improve the intervention and produce an intervention prototype to be tested in the second phase of the project.
The second aim will be to test the effects of the intervention developed with 565 adult cannabis users taking part in the pilot trial of cannabis sales in Lausanne. The various modules of the intervention will be offered or not to participants on a random basis. This will enable us to compare the effects of the different modules on cannabis use behaviors by participants who will complete follow-up questionnaires 1 and 7 months after receiving access to the intervention.
