Understanding Risk Perception and Information Needs Regarding Medications and Pregnancy: A Qualitative Stud

The Swiss Teratogen Information Service (STIS) provides guidance to healthcare professionals regarding the potential risks associated with medications during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Communicating about these risks can be challenging, especially when dealing with teratogenic drugs or limited available data. Pregnancy is a unique period filled with concerns and uncertainties for expectant parents.

This master's thesis proposes a qualitative study aimed at investigating the perception of risk and information requirements among patients and diverse healthcare professionals (such as gynecologists, psychiatrists, midwives, etc.) regarding medications and pregnancy. After gaining a thorough understanding of how STIS operates, the student will draft a protocol under supervision for submission to the ethics committee. Data collection will involve conducting semi-structured interviews. Subsequently, the student will conduct data analysis, leading to the publication of an article. The objective of this qualitative study is to identify the information needs of patients and healthcare professionals, aiming to improve STIS consultations and certain information projects.
