Research directions
Environmental Humanities
I transitioned into the environmental humanities, after a PhD studying glaciers’ potential to buffer climate warming (University of Neuchâtel). Accordingly, my literary and performance studies research investigates how writers and theatre makers advocate for fast — but fair — environmental action. It analyses the rhetorical strategies they use to address diverse audiences as earth stewards, who might shape earth-system governance at various scales (from local to international). Findings are generated through methodologies of close-reading, alongside the transhistorical comparison of literary and performance archives associated with case-study texts, and their contexts of creation. My communications have addressed academics, sustainable-development practitioners, and the public. Recent public-facing outputs are informed by my work as Director of Advocacy for the International Rainwater Harvesting Alliance (2019-2020).
