IntAIRieur: Pilot and Participatory Project on Air Qualities in Living Spaces

Applicant : Séverine Trouilloud & Lara Arietano
Other partners : Nolwenn Bühler, Aurélie Berthet, Guillaume Suarez, Richard Timsit, Julie Würfel
Most public policies focus on outdoor air quality and its monitoring. However, the health effects caused by indoor air pollutants also need to be taken into account in a global approach to exposure. Moreover, the distinction between outdoor and indoor air is not clearly defined. Moreover, indoor air pollutants are currently the subject of few research projects or awareness and information campaigns. Yet indoor air is a major public health issue in cities. Indoor air is five to ten times more polluted than outdoor air, making it an essential factor in urban health promotion. In a context where the vast majority of the Swiss population spends almost 90% of their days in enclosed spaces in urban environments, the intAIRieur pilot project combines a qualitative, quantitative and scientific mediation approach to understand :
- Indoor air quality among a panel of Lausanne residents;
- How it is perceived by these residents, and what knowledge, values and experiences are associated with it;
- What actions individuals themselves are taking to improve it.
