Swiss Centenarian Study (SWISS100): Vulnerability and resilience at age 100
2020 - 2025
Applicant : Jopp, von Gunten, Herrmann, & Cavalli
Other partners : Martin, Krause
SWISS100 is the first nation-wide centenarian study in Switzerland. This sinergia project, funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation, is conducted by aging experts from various Swiss universities (Universities of Lausanne, Geneva, Zurich), centers for higher education (SUPSI) and hospitals (CHUV, HUG). It is conceptualized as an interdisciplinary project, combining approaches from medicine, biology, psychiatry, psychology and sociology to better understand the life at age 100, its challenges, and the determinants of quality of life. SWISS100 includes two parts, a phone study (169 centenarian cases) as well as an in-person study (276 cases). Data are collected from the centenarian and/or a proxy informant (mosty a family member). The assessments include adapted standard questionnaires, open questions, medical and cognitive tests, as well as measurements of biomarkers. To cover all main language regions of Switzerland, study centers are located at University of Lausanne, University of Zurich and SUPSI. For more information see https://wp.unil.ch/swiss100/.
