Biography
After its federal maturity at the Gymnasium of Neuchâtel (1976), its Licence in classics at the University of Paris-IV Sorbonne (1979-80), David Bouvier obtained a doctorate of IIIe cycle (thesis directed by J.-P. Vernant (EHESS); fellowship from the French Government and the Council of Europe). The same year, he is elected member of research ofthe center Louis Gernet (Centre d'études comparées sur les sociétés anciennes, Paris)
With the project of swiss doctorate deposited at the University of Geneva, he then continues its research thanks to a fellowship of the FNSR. After a stay at the Scuola Normale di Pisa (1987-8), he occupies two years during the position of assistant and first assistant near the Professor C Calame at the University of Lausanne (1988-90) In 1990-91, he is invited to teach as assistant Professor invited at the University of Chicago (Department of Classics, University of Chicago). At his return in Lausanne, he succeeds, in January 1991, to Louis Graz, and occupies, the function of Maître d'enseignement et de recherche in Greek language and literature. In 1997, he obtained his second doctorate, at the University of Geneva, with a thesis (Le sceptre et la lyre. L'Iliade ou les héros de la mémoire), directed by André Hurst; this work is rewarded for the price Charles Bally in 1998
In 2004, it is elected ordinary Professor of Greek language and literature at the University of Lausanne, thus succeeding to Claude Calame
