Research directions
Function and evolution of insects societies (reseach group of Dr. M. Chapuisat)
We study the structure, function and evolution of insects societies. Projects undertaken in 2004 focussed on the causes and consequences of variation in social structure, the discrimination of kin, the dynamics of cooperation and conflict, and the mechanisms of defence against parasites
Silene latifolia (Caryophyllaceae) (research group of Prof. Assistante and Boursière FNRS Giorgina Bernasconi)
Development of 8 microsatellite DNA primer loci, primer optimization, analysis of genetic variability in and divergence among natural populations, analysis of multiple paternity in the field
Analysis of in-vivo pollen tube growth rates, SEM-analysis of pollination-induced changes in stigmatic receptivity, experimental manipulation of stigmatic receptivity and inter-pollination intervals
Experimental crosses in several populations to test post-pollination selection for inbreeding avoidance
Experimental crosses to produce greenhouse-reared F1 generations from field collected plants
Garden experiment to assess among-population variability in attractiveness to specialist herbivore Hadena bicruris and level of herbivory damage
Prunella grandiflora (Lamiaceae) (research group of Prof. Assistante et Boursière FNRS Giorgina Bernasconi)
Optimization of DNA extraction protocol
Analysis of microgametophyte population sizes in 8 natural populations
Analysis of in-vivo pollen tube growth rates
