The Center for Integrative Genomics (CIG) is a interdisciplinary research and training institute located in the Génopode building, situated on the spectacular Dorigny campus of the University of Lausanne (UNIL). It overlooks the nearby «Lac Léman» (Lake Geneva) and the Swiss and French Alps beyond. The CIG is the principal creation of the University of Lausanne as part of the program « Sciences, Vie, Société » (SVS), an exciting tri-institutional program among the Universities of Geneva and Lausanne and the Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, EPFL) - which aims to develop the life sciences as well as the humanities and social sciences in the Lémanic region.
The CIG forms the latest department of the newly established UNIL Faculty of Biology and Medecine, and has three main missions:
- The development of a first rate research program in the biological sciences
- The development of an outstanding teaching program
- The development of shared research technologies available to the Lemanic research community and beyond
The research at the CIG centers on genome structure and function in a number of different experimental systems, and a number of different techniques. It is performed by an international community of scientists. Yet the character of the CIG is one of a single, integrated research center, where interactions among groups are numerous both in informal and formal settings. |
